"Authentic Cowichan Sweaters"

"WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING ANY ORDERS AT THIS TIME"

Each sw
eater is knit by an local Coast Salish Native from the Cowichan Valley, we at Sa-Cinn work with the customer to custom design each sweater to the customers liking. Each customer can choose from various patterns to design his/her own sweater. However, like all hand made goods each sweater is knit in the order that it comes up in and usually take 4-5 weeks to make.Unfortunately we have a very limited amount of knitters due to the size of needle we at sa-cinn insist on. For our custom orders we prefer a tighter weave . There can be a lengthy wait for our quality sweaters. These truly will last you 40 years or more.

Please bear in mind that any repeditive actions for any length of time will and can be harmful to the muscle and tendons

Knitters know and pace themselves accordingly.

Below are styles that are currently available and some mythology behind the designs. If you have a favorite animal that is not listed please let us know and we will work with the artist to accommodate your requests. Please read cost and sizing page very carefully, custom sales are final, therefore it is your decision as to the size and fit.

"TESTIMONIALS"

January 20, 2009

Hi Winnona. I just wanted to report how pleased we are with the Salmon sweater which arrived yesterday. The timiong couldn't have been better. We had just taken down the Christmas tree earlier and that is always a sad event. So the Christmas spirit was renewed in the evening when the sweater arrived. The fit is perfect and my wife is thrilled with the workmanship. The design is unique. She is very pleased with the wooden buttons and how they are attached. Also, it was snowing and a bit cold so it came in handy It's definitely the finest sweater we've ever seen. Great congratulations to you and to the artist who knit it. It was definitely worth the wait!

Thanks, Jim Miller

Many thanks for the beautiful Orca sweater! I love it and have been wearing it alot this past Winter (When I'm not wearing the Bear Paw sweater!) I love the leaf pattern, and the colors are wonderful! Now, since I have the Bear form the land, the Orca from the sea, I guess I'll need to order a Hummingbird so I have one from the air! Thank you all for your hard work---your talent is remarkable---and I wear these sweaters with pride.

Warmest regards,

February 2008

Whale Sweater Designs

The Whale has been an integral feature in our culture. Orcas are noted as the great fisherman and the protectors of people on the ocean. For some tribes the longhouse represents the interior of a whale where drums are used to represent the heatbeat of the whale.Below are patterns that capture the affinity that humans have for these noble animals. Here in this selection we have both a realistic and northwest coast art diepiction of the whales.

*Notice the whale pattern on the sleeves
this was a special feature that the artist added for this customer. The trim chosen was the geometric design in the gray style

Swimming Orca

This sweater is a of a Swimming Orca whale with a leaf pattern trim. The sweater actually consists of three colored wools of a smoke gray ,dark brown and white. This sweater actually has pockets as well. These artisans can match the pockets pattern to make the pockets almost invisible

This sweater also has the design repeating on the back of the sweater.

Wolves Sweater - New design

This is a sample of a custom designed sweater that was created by one of our knitters. On the front are two howling wolves knitted in a cream and grey color . For the trim, a wolf foot print pattern was chosen with oxford type stripes lining the bottom and cuffs of the sleeves of the sweater. Notice how the foot prints are around the back and down the sleeves of the design. The back of the sweater has a walking wolf design that spans the back of the sweater.

Thank you, thank you for the beautiful Bear/Bear Paw sweater! And just in time for my birthday on the 18th I could not have received a more meaningful gift (even though I ordered it for myself!)    The craftsmanship is superb--kudos and hugs to your talented knitting gals--the wool is so soft, and such beautiful colors! I know alot of love goes into these sweaters, and I'm honored to be a "wearer".Thank you also for making the choosing, measuring, and ordering process so painless! Same goes for the moccs and the mitts. It goes without saying tha I'll order again come Spring. Thanks to you all, I'm looking forward to a warm, toasty Winter!

Warmest regards,
