Joe Bolton has studied with many accomplished native artists including Henry Robertson, Barry Wilson and Dereck Wilson. Carving Totem Poles as an exhibitor in the Pacific National Exibition in Vancouver and Cloverdale Rodeo, such events have brought Joe a following of international collectors.Carving for 20 years Joe has created a diverse collection of artwork including clocks, plaques and varied sizes of masks. New to his portfolio are varied sizes of 3 dimensional miniature Northwest coast figurines that will be features here soon.

Galleries now housing collections of Joe Boltons work include the Royal Ontario Museum, and University of British Columbia museum of anthropology.

The wild woman of the woods depicted here with closed eyes and open mouth. The wild woman of the woods legend kept children inside the longhouse at night.The wild woman was told to look in the forest at night in the woods for lost children from the villages.

Bukwus

This carving is depicts the creature that lives in the forest called bookwus. Sometimes paralleled with the saskwatch bukwus was hairy with animalistic behavior with a human like body. There are many various stories about the bukwus in various northern native villages of British Columbia, but each story shares bukwus' love for muscles and clams.

Whale Transformation Mask

It was believed thatlong ago the animals had the ability to change into many forms. This mask depicts a whale transforming into a whale. In some villages it was believed that sometime the whale would transform into a human at night to seek shelter and sleep in caves.
